It has been traditional to change our clocks from Daylight Saving Time back to standard time on the last Sunday in October. However, beginning this year, we now make the time change during the first Sunday in November. In the spring, the time change has moved from the first Sunday in April to the second Sunday in March. Family upbeat but anxious for him to ‘get out of intensive care’

(October 18, 2007) — Army Spc. Kevin Mowl, the Pittsford soldier critically injured by a bomb Aug. 2 in Iraq, continues to make slow but steady progress at a hospital in Maryland.
Updates are posted daily by his parents, Mary and Harold Mowl, and his sister, Carlene, at www.caringbridge.org/visit/kevinmowl. Their reports say he has been awake more often in recent days after being treated for a brain infection. He remains in the intensive-care unit of the National Naval Medical Center.

(Pittsford, N.Y.) — A soldier from Pittsford recovering from injuries he suffered in Iraq got an early birthday present on Tuesday.
U.S. Army Specialist Kevin Mowl received the Purple Heart on Tuesday. His family said the honor is a testament to his courage and heroism.

RIT, Sprint Foundation to Sponsor Outreach Programs

More than 28,000 deaf and hard-of-hearing students in grades 6 through 9 can benefit from two programs offered by Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf through the generous three-year commitment by the Sprint Foundation of $150,000 to a new initiative.
The new initiative, known as “Reaching Out to Rising Stars,” involves two programs: “Steps to Success” and MATHCOUNTS.

Saturday Night: Vamp & Vampire Ball

Tomorrow night (Saturday October 27) is the Vamp & Vampire Ball at the Rochester Recreation Club for the Deaf. It takes place from 7 pm to midnight at 1564 Lyell Avenue, Rochester, NY 14606, (585) 458-5720 TTY/FAX/VP.
Hot and cold appetizers will be served and drinks will be on sale. There will be raffles, door prizes, poker and euchre games. The cost is $10 per member, $13 for non-members, plus $2 if you don’t wear a costume.
