
Rochester, New York: Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Victims (ASADV), a non-profit organization announces its search for an Executive Director to assume the leadership role in the provision of advocacy services. ASADV provides direct advocacy services to the deaf community in Monroe County, New York. The Executive Director will represent ASADV, both locally and nationally, on the topics of domestic violence within the deaf community.
The mission of ASADV is to provide support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults and their children who are and have been victims of sexual assault and/or domestic violence. ASADV is dedicated to providing assistance through advocacy and empowerment.
At this time, the Executive Director position is a volunteer-based position. The candidate will have the opportunity to initiate efforts in securing grant applications. The grant monies will potentially allow for staff members to be compensated.
Individuals with strong social work, psychology or administrative backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Candidates need to reside in the Greater Rochester area.
Qualifications include a minimum of 5 years involvement in the Deaf Community (paid or volunteer) and excellent communication skills, including sign language fluency and knowledge of deaf culture. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
The position will be filled by October 2008. The current Executive Director will provide mentoring support until the end of December 2008.
