“Occupational Hazards in Sign Language Interpreting: What they didn’t tell you in school”

Abstract: Interpreting training tends to focus primarily on themes pertaining to language skills; essential training in personal protection may be neglected. Within the Interpreting literature, “Occupational Hazards” are limited in scope to RMI / CT (repetitive motion injury / cumulative trauma). This presentation will explore possible risks, preventions and self advocacy.

GVRRID to Mark 30th With Banquet April 5

GVRRID* will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a banquet at the Burgundy Basin Inn, 1361 Marsh Rd., Pittsford, on Saturday, April 5, 6:30-11 pm. The cost is $30 and the RSVP deadline is March 15.

GVRRID Board to Meet Saturday Morning

The Genesee Valley Region Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf will hold a board meeting tomorrow morning from 9 am to 12 noon. The meeting will take place at 6 Loden Lane, Henrietta, and it is open to the public.

GVRRID also has announced the following dates:

April 5, 2008 - GVR 30th Anniversary Banquet
May 10, 2008 - GVR RID General Membership Meeting

Interpretek Featured in Today’s Paper

The local interpreting firm Interpretek, in its first year as a Rochester Top 100 company, was featured in today’s Democrat and Chronicle.

The article, by Ana Fermin, consists of nine questions and answers with an Interpretek official who went unnamed in the online edition. The article discusses the company’s expansion into Florida and touches on Video Relay Services and Video Remote Interpreting, along with other topics.
