RIT/NTID Educator Awarded International Honor

Jim DeCaro, director of the Postsecondary Education Network-International at NTID, recieved the 2008 Contribution to Society Award from Japan’s Foundation for Encouragement of Social Contribution. He was one of only five non-Japanese recipients.

Government Recruiter is Home at RIT/NTID

Amanda Massab is working on campus to help RIT/NTID students become prospective employees for the Department of Defense. It’s a unique arrangement: RIT is only one of four colleges in the country in the agency’s Student Training Academic Recruitment program.

NTID Communications Win National Marketing Honors!

"Dream. Discover. Decide." is one of three products from NTID's Marketing Communications Department receiving honors from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.

A recruitment video for prospective students coming to RIT/NTID has earned a MarCom Platinum Award from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Two other projects, including NTID’s FOCUS magazine, were also honored.

National Math Competition for Middle School Students with Hearing Loss

Ted Zoerner, from Vernado Middle School in Irvine, Calif., was top individual for the second year in a row in the 2008 MATHCOUNTS competition at NTID. With him is Gerry Buckley, NTID's Assistant Vice President for College Advancement.

Middle school students from across the country who have hearing loss can participate in the third annual MATHCOUNTS® competition on April 3-4, 2009 at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, New York.

This competition – specifically for middle school students in grades 6 to 8 who are deaf or hard of hearing – is designed to promote math as fun and engaging and features three rounds that test speed and accuracy, teamwork and additional “mathletic” skills.

Deaf Culture and Audism is the Focus for Campus Week of Dialogue

The 11th annual Campus Week of Dialogue at RIT and NTID begins Oct. 27 with one of the country’s strongest advocates for Deaf Culture: Martina Bienvenu. Several workshops are also planned that week to better understand Deaf Culture, Audism and diversity.

NTID Sets Enrollment Record!

This year, NTID’s enrollment is 1,450 students, shattering its record of 1,358 students in 1984. The previous record was the result of a high number of deaf children born to women in the mid-1960s who contracted rubella during their pregnancies. Enrollment has surpassed 1,000 since the early 1980s.

NTID Sponsors National Art Competition for Students with Hearing Loss

RIT/NTID has announced its third annual Digital Arts, Film and Animation Competition for high school students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Winners will receive cash prizes and all-expenses-paid trips to Rochester.

NTID’s Eighth Annual Job Fair!

NTID Center on Employment is pleased to inform you that the 8th Annual Job Fair will be taking place on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in LBJ.

More than 40 companies and 90 employer representatives will be interacting with you and recruiting co-ops, interns, graduating students and alumni.

We encourage you to attend and actively participate in the Job Fair. We also encourage you to participate in an exciting Employer Panel and Reception on Monday, October 13, 2008 in SDC-1300/1310 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for you to meet and mingle with four/five companies prior to the Job Fair.

NTID Homecoming Events, October 10-12, 2008

NTID invites you back to campus for many great events during Brick City Homecoming, October 10-12, 2008. Below are two of the terrific offerings from your college, but be sure to look at all events taking place on the weekend. Furthermore if you would like to learn how to personally invite your classmates to make sure they come as well, click HERE.

* College Interactive Exhibits and Explorations – Visit with your favorite faculty; learn how your program has changed; get tours of the building and meet up with former classmates. (Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

* SPECIAL OFFER - Free Wine and Cheese Reunion Reception - Celebrate your RIT class reunion by sampling wine and cheese from around New York State. The Class Reunion Reception is free for the following class years: 2006, 1998, 1988, 1983, 1978, 1968, and 1958. (Saturday, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.)

Don’t forget the inaugural College Alumni Cup Challenge! The Cup will be awarded to the RIT college that draws the greatest percentage of alumni participants during Homecoming weekend. The cup will be presented by President Bill Destler to representatives from the winning college during the President’s Alumni Ball, held this year on Friday, October 10th. It’s up to you—and your classmates—to make NTID a winner!
